Mies — Architecture Cover Design

MIES
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a pioneering figure in modern design, revolutionized the architectural landscape of the 20th century. Renowned for his minimalist approach, Mies believed that "less is more," emphasizing simplicity, clean lines, and functional spaces. His architectural masterpieces, such as the Barcelona Pavilion and the Farnsworth House, showcase his innovative use of industrial materials and open-plan designs. Mies' influence extends beyond architecture, shaping the world of design as a whole. His philosophy continues to inspire contemporary creatives, and his timeless aesthetic remains a symbol of elegance and sophistication in the modern design world.

The creation of the carton model for the illustrated book "MIES" was a fascinating and meticulous project. The goal was to design a carton model of the cover that would capture the essence of minimalism. The title "MIES" was written in a simple and straightforward style, in line with the book's minimalistic approach. The model's cover featured a floor plan of a Mies project, a brick country house. The walls of the floor plan were extended to fill the front and back covers, creating an interesting visual effect and establishing a visual connection between the project and the title. For printing, a high-quality Colorplan Ebony cardstock by Paper and People was used. This 100gr/sqm cardstock provided a sturdy foundation for the model. The cover printing was achieved through a white UV printing process, adding a touch of sophistication to the design. The end result was a captivating and sophisticated carton model that fully embodied the minimalist aesthetic of the catalogue.

BRIEF:
The primary goal of this project is to create a visually striking carton model that captures the essence of minimalism and effectively represents the book. Attention to detail, precise execution, and adherence to the minimalist aesthetic were key factors in achieving the desired outcome.

REALIZATION:
The carton model project meticulously brought the minimalistic design to life. Using 100gsm Colorplan Ebony cardstock on a 4mm thick carton ensured durability. The black cardstock spine added sophistication. White UV printing precisely reproduced the floor plan, extended walls, and the minimalistic title "MIES" on the cover. The outcome reflects attention to detail, capturing the book's minimalistic aesthetic.
